Porn Addiction Treatment, Recovery, & Counseling

Dealing with addiction is not easy. It’s a difficult journey for all involved, and the destination isn’t reached in a single day. True recovery is an ongoing process that doesn’t end at sobriety. It requires lifelong changes to the behaviors and mindsets of both the addict and those that love them. It takes a great deal of effort, and there are many challenges along the way.

At LifeStar Therapy, we know that healing the damage done by an addiction can be a struggle, but attempts at recovery will be more effective with the enlistment of professional help. That’s why we offer our intensive outpatient program (IOP), with counseling and support for both addicts and their families. If you or someone you know suffers from an addiction to porn, our treatment can help you reach recovery.

Porn Addiction Treatment

Porn use comes with a great deal of shame and guilt. For many who struggle with an addiction to porn, there is a desire to change. The problem is that most addicts lack the capacity or the toolset to be able to change on their own. Without intervention, their cycle of use and regret will be nearly impossible to break.

Family Members

Finding out that a partner has gone outside the marriage (literally or virtually) can be devastating and incredibly disorienting. It literally deregulates the brain and many partners are thrown into the fight or flight region of the brain. In many ways betrayal trauma is a unique trauma because in almost every other kind of trauma we will turn to the person we are connected to for comfort and support. But with betrayal trauma the very person we are attached to is the one that betrays us. The relationship is now defined as a source of danger rather than a safe haven in times of stress.

LifeStar’s therapy and treatment programs are designed to help both addicts and their loved ones to overcome their challenges and cope in healthy ways. We offer a six-day IOPfor addicts to help them finally make progress in their journey towards lasting change. We also offer a follow-up three-day weekend retreat for graduates of the program, and a similar three-day retreat for spouses who want to equip themselves to better help their spouses, and themselves.

We also know that recovery is more than just sobriety, and that success is built on lasting relationships and consistent accountability. That’s why we keep in touch after the treatment to offer support, counseling, and encouragement, helping people to find lasting freedom from the grip of addiction.

Porn Addiction Recovery

Recovery, for both addicts and their loved ones, is an ongoing process that starts at sobriety and then digs deeper into psychological issues. We help begin this process at our IOP and our retreats. Then, together with our clients, we pursue the additional stages of recovery with ongoing counseling.

For addicts, recovery happens in four stages:

  1. Break the addiction
  2. Develop a network of support
  3. Build self-worth
  4. Heal Trauma

For partners, there is a similar pattern of healing:

  1. Get educated
  2. Develop a network of support
  3. Build self-worth
  4. Heal betrayal trauma past and present

Both journeys may feel hopeless at first, but change and healing are possible for those who try again each time they face setbacks. True recovery is only possible, however, when the fourth step is reached and core emotional wounds and trauma are dealt with. This step is often the most difficult to address without professional counseling. It is essential that you find a trained therapist that knows how to address and heal trauma.

Those who find true recovery experience a quality of life that they never thought possible.

Porn Addiction Counseling

In some ways, counseling is the most important part of treatment for those pursuing recovery. It’s critical not just for individual recovery, but for the healing of relationships between the addict and their family. That’s why aftercare for our patients begins before the program even starts; before a patient attends one of our retreats, we establish contact with their therapist and coordinate with them regarding needs and treatment.

For those who don’t have a therapist yet, we help them begin the process of finding one that meets their needs and fits their situation. That way, patients can continue to receive the treatment they need long after their stay with us.

The journey towards recovery is a long one, and it’s not without its bumps in the road. But with the help of experienced, qualified professionals, you can hope for healing and a life free from self-hatred and destructive cycles.
